Gale Banks explains the fundamentals of airflow

"An engine, every two revolutions, pumps its own volume... so if you have a 427 Chevy, every two revolutions, it pumps 427 cubic inches... how do we make more power...?" Watch the episode and find out!

Ram-Air: Finding all the
Horsepower Inside an Engine

It's turbo and blower time with Gale!

If an engine can be thought of as an air pump, the key to creating more power would mean figuring out how to get more air into and out of it, right?

Watch airflow guru Gale Banks give a lesson on the ins and outs of intake and exhaust. He covers turbochargers, superchargers, nitrous... and explains in detail the merits of each.

Banks power added to a Ford F-150

Trucks host, Ryan and Kevin, add power to a stock Ford F-150 in increments: From the Banks Stinger which added +25 hp, all the way up to the Big Hoss Bundle and its gains of +133 hp!

On the show, hosts Kevin and Ryan ran a stock baseline dyno test on their ’06 F-150, and then installed the Banks Stinger system: dual-tailpipe cat-back Monster® Exhaust (single version also available), Ram-Air® cold air intake with a High-Ram® air inlet, and an OttoMind® programmer for optimal engine tuning. Results after the dyno test: Stinger added +25 hp. Ryan and Kevin then added TorqueTubes® and reprogrammed the computer with OttoMind to match the increased airflow, which turned the Stinger into a PowerPack. Result: +43 hp over stock. After that, they stepped up to the Big Hoss Bundle by installing the Banks Blower™ (a roots-style belt-driven supercharger with integral intercooler), replacing the High-Ram intake with a shorter inlet tube, and re-programming the computer to match the dramatic increase in airflow. Maximum power was then unleashed: the Big Hoss Bundle added an astounding gain of +133 hp (from stock’s peak 202 hp to 335 hp). That’s a walloping 66% increase in horsepower! Banks Big Hoss® Bundle, PowerPDA® and Banks Billet™ Torque Converter featured on SPEED TV’s Truck Universe

Gale Banks Engineering’s ultimate high performance diesel system—the Big Hoss Bundle with the PowerPDA Vehicle Command Center—and exclusive Banks Billet Torque Converter was featured on SPEED TV’s Truck Universe. The episode will featured hosts Matt Steele and Mike ‘Buzz’ Thompson installing and test-driving the Banks Big Hoss Bundle with PowerPDA on a 2006 Dodge Ram equipped with a 5.9L Cummins.

Matt and Buzz also explained that if truck owners are doing heavy towing and/or racing with their automatic transmission-equipped truck, then they really need to consider upgrading to the Banks Billet Torque Converter. They described and illustrated how — through its unique design — the Banks Billet Torque Converter provides pickups 128% more torque converter capacity, and strengthens and increases the durability of the transmission.

Spike TV's Trucks!
Host Stacey David goes through the installation of a Six-Gun Bundle on an ’04 Ford F-250 Super Duty. (Note: this particular bundle is now called a Big Hoss Bundle because it contains the Techni-Cooler intercooler and High-Ram intake.) He then demonstrates the bundle’s awesome punch as he ratchets up the power from levels 2 through 6 using the Six-Gun’s dash-mounted knob. In Stacey’s words, a hard takeoff in level 6 turns the rear tires into “rotating smoke bombs!” As aired on Trucks! in March, 2004.

Segment 1: About Banks Six-Gun
(Note: "TransCommand" features described in this segment are not included with current release of Six-Gun Tuner. Six-Gun does provide Intelligent Fuel Delivery for smooth shifting, an exclusive Banks feature. The "TransCommand" features will be included on the new OttoMind Diesel Tuner, coming soon with new PowerPack and Stinger systems).

Segment 2: Installation of Banks Six-Gun, Speed-Loader upgrade and DynaFact gauges

Segment 3: Banks Techni-Cooler intercooler assembly

Segment 4: Banks Monster exhaust and Stacey David's Performance Test Drive
