About This Product

Flowbench developed, dyno-proven cold-air intake with enclosed housing improves flow up to 57 percent. Increases power and fuel economy. Reduces exhaust gas temps and sooty, black smoke.

Specifications

Passes the test. Again and again.
Others build and ship without testing. Not Banks. Our Ram-Air Intakes start out as CAD software prototypes and are put through flow simulations. The design is refined until the simulation shows optimal performance. Then a hardware prototype is made and the design is validated on a flowbench. After that comes dyno testing and on-vehicle testing. It takes a superior design to pass all those tests!

Filter on a stick: a joke that's not funny.
A filter on a stick is a bad joke. It's wide-open to hot underhood engine air, and there's no power in hot air! Ram-Air houses a giant filter in an enclosed cold-air box, which inhales cool, dense outside air - more than Banks competitors and up to 57% more than stock - for more power and mileage, lower EGTs and less smoke. And it's designed to not cause fault or error codes.

Bellows, too? Very exclusive.
Banks Ram-Air is the only aftermarket intake with bellows. This accommodates engine movement and prevents component damage for longer service life. The optional high-flow Super-Scoop is another Banks exclusive!

It’s good to be dense, all right. Check out our density ad for an informative look at intake airflow, air temperature and air density, and how they all come together in the Banks Ram-Air Intake.

Testing so good, it’s patented! Banks sets uncompromisingly high standards for testing. In fact, we were awarded an Engine Performance Evaluation patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Check it out: Engine Performance Evaluation: US Patent # 7,254,477

Overview Summary

We measured each intake’s effect on air density at the turbo compressor inlet. Intake temperatures will generally be higher than ambient conditions, but the more the system can duct cool air to the filter and preserve the cool temperature as the air is ducted to the turbo, the higher the air density will be. In addition, there will commonly be a pressure drop as air travels through the filter and the ducting due to any restriction that is introduced. If the design of the system can minimise the restriction and the pressure loss, air density will be preserved.

Test Setup

A 2006 Chevrolet 2500HD, 4 wheel drive, with a crew cab, six foot bed and automatic transmission was used as the test vehicle. A data acquisition system was used to measure vehicle speed via GPS, along with multiple temperature thermistors and extremely accurate pressure transducers. The total vehicle weight was approximately 19,000 lbs. Tests were run in 2WD.

Testing was conducted on a moderate hill on the northbound CA-57 in the city of Pomona. Speed was maintained at 45 MPH until the vehicle was adjacent to a pre-determined start point on the road. At that point, the accelerator was fully depressed and the vehicle was allowed to accelerate while climbing the hill. Test data was observed at the same vehicle speed in all cases, with the engine at 2800 RPM, the point of peak engine power. This data point occurred between 60 and 90 seconds into the run—sufficient time to allow the engine to reach a stabilized operating condition.

Bottom Line

Why on earth would anyone pay money for a product that kills power and mileage? It’s all about density — and Banks Ram-Air delivers.

Great Kit !

"Banks does not disappoint, I bought the ram air cold air intake for my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Duramax and it was a very well thought out kit everything went together easy and the quality of the parts is outstanding! You can't go wrong with Banks."

Phil Q. (5/5)

Duramax Ram-Air

"I replaced a K&N cold air intake… Banks made it look like junk! Banks was designed for my vehicle, installation was easy with their clear instructions and photos… everything was perfect. I took the truck for a drive and was amazed at the difference in response! If you’re looking for a cold air intake system, Banks is the way to go… Just do it, you won’t be disappointed."

Ken M. (5/5)

Banks cold air intake

"Design good. Install fairly simple. Computer does not like it and sends codes within 150 miles after install. And no fix for it besides erasing after engine light comes on. I have the pedal Monster installed and it trips the code even faster. Never had the issue on OEM intake w pedal monster. Would love to find a fix so I don’t have to remove the banks cold air intake. Hope to get answers. Thanks."

Flip L. (5/5)

More better

"Huge difference (possibly because there was a mouse nest under my stock filter but let's not focus on that). I wanted more whistley noise and got it. I installed a straight pipe first, drove it for a week, then installed the banks intake on my LLY Duramax, and got more whistley noise as hoped for."

Peter H. (5/5)

WORTH EVERY PENNY

"I just installed this on my 2002 Chevy 2500HD Duramax and all I can say is WOW! Well worth the money, noticeable power gains through the entire RPM range. EGTs are lower as well. I haven’t got a chance to calculate fuel efficiency but I’m sure there will be gains there as well…… as long as I can keep my foot out of it. I’ve already got straight pipes, custom tune and FASS fuel system but still had the stock air intake. This intake system truly unlocked the potential that was left lying on the table while using the stock system. VERY happy and VERY impressed. Gale Banks is an engineering genius."

Banks Power!!

"So glad I chose Banks!!! The only way to go!!!"

Banks is #1

"This cold air intake was very easy to install and took less than an hour to complete. Banks has been a leader in diesel engineering for years before the competition. I am looking forward to purchasing other Banks products for my Chevy 2012 LML"

Joe H. (5/5)

Worth the money

"Very impressed with it like the throttle response that it adds figuring up I'm gained about a mile per gallon Really wish I would have done this sooner Very simple to install"
