Specifications

Banks Power introduces the new 5" Monster Exhaust designed specifically for the 2017-2019 GM 6.6L Duramax L5P 2500/3500 HD pickup trucks. The DPF-back exhaust system features constant-diameter 5" mandrel-bent aluminized steel tubing and a massive patented tip which virtually eliminates backpressure after the DPF and prevents trailer meltdown.

With the stock exhaust nozzle measuring 2.85" compared to the Monster Exhaust’s massive 5" outlet, the Banks system offers a 192% greater flow area than stock. The Monster Exhaust boasts 85% less backpressure than stock, leading to more power and increased fuel economy.

The Monster Exhaust also provides a 15% reduction in exhaust temperature two feet behind the tip during regen. The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) on the Duramax L5P is cleaned through regeneration in which scorching exhaust gas temperatures can last up to 20 minutes while driving. Unlike the stock Duramax exhaust, which directs a prolonged jet-like blast of super-heated exhaust gas directly at anything being towed, the Monster Exhaust is aimed out to the side of the truck. This allows ambient air to diffuse the heated gas, eliminating the risk of melting a trailer, which has been reported by many Duramax owners.

Duramax owners can choose from two huge patented 6.5" x 7.5" ob-round slash-cut exhaust tips: chrome-plated polished stainless steel or high-temp matte black. And, unlike other brands, Banks’ chrome-plated stainless tip will not turn brown with heat.

The Banks 5" Monster Exhaust (Part No. 48996 for chrome or 48996-B for black) fits all regular cab short bed, double cab short bed, double cab long bed, crew cab short bed, crew cab long bed, and dually models.

Drop The Pressure

Banks negative back-pressure tip virtually eliminates back-pressure after the DPF. With a side-draft rocket nozzle-like tip, exhaust gasses are literally sucked out of the end of the exhaust.

With pressure sensors installed, this negative exhaust pressure resulted in an impressive 9% reduction all the way back to the turbine inlet.

Details make the difference

"Have not installed yet, but have opened the box, got the instructions and watched the installation video. Excellent and easy to understand. The details are impressive, the standard for every Banks Power product I have purchased. The double wall shipping box is high quality too; stapled and taped. It arrived at my east coast location with zero damage and all contents intact. Quality starts with the shipping box and just gets better once it's open. Can't wait to install the Monster Exhaust! And, after watching the DarkIron shop tour on You Tube, there is no doubt Banks products are the best money can buy, the best engineered, the best quality on the market."

Fit is correct. Really like

"Fit is correct. Really like the look with the chrome tip. Lines up perfect with tires and body. Had to tighten the clamps tighter than the instructions stated to stop slip joint movement."

2017 Silverado 3500

"Just installed, so far I like the look. Cant speak on the performance yet but love the way it looks."

Jarrett N. (5/5)

Looks great and the fit

"Looks great and the fit was perfect! Not sure about performance change yet. Will soon know once I haul again. I don’t think they say a performance gain. Just works together with the ram air system."

Steve B. (5/5)

Monster Exhaust 2019 L5P

"Installed the Banks Monster exhaust on my 2019 GMC 3500 (L5P). Overall I'm very pleased with the look of the monster exhaust. My main goal was to kick the hot gases to the side instead of out the back at my Rock Tamers. Install and instructions were easy to follow. Kudos to Banks for acknowledging the possibility of breaking sensors especially the pressure differential line, they do the leg work and list the replacement part # for you in the instructions. (Speaking from experience) Once the new pressure differential assembly arrives, you're going to think there is light at the end of the tunnel, THERE'S NOT. If your truck is more than a few years old good luck getting the 2nd line off the DPF, it's not coming off. A little critical thinking and you'll realize you can rob the new stainless line off the new assembly and connect it to the hose on the old assembly completely relieving you of having to remove the line going to the DPF. Again, none of that is Banks fault just wanted to provide insight in case it happens to others. Can't comment on any performance differences as I've only drove it once. Very pleased with the exhaust correcting the poor GM engineering design. Would recommend to others."

Kevin L. (5/5)

Great looking product!

"I haven’t got to install this yet but it looks sweet in the box! Can’t wait to get it on the truck."

Josh B. (5/5)

Beautiful Exhaust

"Not only does it look fantastic, it definitely makes my L5P feel more throttle responsive."

Jimmy J. (5/5)

"Great part, looks and fits perfect."

Donny (5/5)

Easy install, the tip looked

"Easy install, the tip looked huge until I put it on, then I was happy with it! Word of advise for anyone doing the install yourself, use a torch to heat up those sensors before removing them! I rounded one off and then twisted the tube in half!! Had to replace that also! But it Looks Amazing!!"
