Your Honda is an incredible machine. Honda engine development has been the envy of many car companies around the world and its led to countless motorsports wins and even F1 championships.
Sure, your daily-driver CR-V or Accord isn't exactly a fire-breathing monster, but you still want to enjoy all the fun those four or six cylinders can put out. Unfortunately, Honda must have forgotten to tell the person who does the pedal programming that fun is allowed at any price point, and as a result, your Honda has a mushy, uninspiring throttle curve. What is a PedalMonster and how does it work? It's pretty simple on the surface. The Banks PedalMonster installs in between your vehicle's throttle pedal and the car's wiring harness and intercepts your pedal inputs. It tweaks them to one of 30 pedal profiles (150 if you count Tip-In Control, but more on that later) based on your desired driving experience.
Banks isn't the only company to offer a throttle controller, but Banks has a number of patented features that make it not only a much more versatile product, but a much much safer one. This is possible because the PedalMonster connects to your vehicle's OBDII port, which not only provides the unit with power, but also allows it to know what vehicle it's in, what gear you're in and what kind of transmission you have.
Why is all that information important? Well, it's important for a few reasons but one of the biggest is what Banks calls Reverse Safety. This lets PedalMonster temporarily shut itself off when you put your vehicle in reverse. You don't need a more aggressive pedal curve in reverse, so not having one prevents you from accelerating too quickly and maybe backing through your garage door, or worse.
Next, Banks has a safety feature called Active Safety. This lets the PedalMonster be bypassed in the unlikely event that it experiences a failure. Other companies don't have this, and if they fail, it's likely that you'll experience a completely dead pedal which can be a dangerous situation.
Earlier we mentioned something called "Tip-In Control," and this is one of the other major features that sets PedalMonster apart from the competition. Tip-In Control allows you to set one profile for your throttle pedal, but set a second one for speeds under 10 mph. This is useful in a number of situations, but our favorite is with manual transmissions. This makes clutch engagement smoother and easier, especially if your normal PedalMonster profile is fairly aggressive.
Controlling PedalMonster is easy, too. It can be controlled through the Banks Power app on Android or iPhone or through one of our Banks iDash Pro digital gauges. Its adjustable on the fly, too, so getting your perfect pedal dialed-in requires very little effort. Speaking of little effort, the PedalMonster is also quick and easy to install. It takes minutes and requires no special tools.
