Why It's Better

A COLD AIR INTAKE IS SUPPOSED TO DELIVER COLD AIR

That should go without saying, right? With our competitors' intakes you can't be so sure. They all look nice... but do they really deliver cooler air to your engine and bring the power and mileage gains you thought you were paying for? Not according to our testing.

7.3L cold air intake comparison

Your engine doesn't need decoration, it needs density. The ugly truth is that every competitive "cold air" intake system we tested actually delivered hotter intake air temps than the stock system. They all flowed somewhat better but without cooler air, all the flow in the world ends up being meaningless. Cool air = density. Density = more HP & torque, better fuel economy, and overall better performance.

The real deal. You're out for maximum performance and so are we. The Banks Ram-Air Intake System brings the flow as well as the density.

That means you'll have the muscle to get the job done, whatever it may be. And, it bolts on in minutes. Best of all, Ram-Air delivers what your hard-earned dollar deserves: true engineering, real performance, and actual value.

Banks Intake

Enclosure helps draw in cooler air.

The competitors like to talk about flow but they get a little uncomfortable when you ask them about density.

Intake Density is cool air and rich oxygen content, and that spells power

Good flow means nothing if you're just pumping your engine full of hot air.

Some of our competitors' intake systems result in hotter air inlet temperatures than stock!

AFE intake

AFE Intake

Open and exposed design pulls in hot engine air, resulting in poor density.

Cheap metal battery tray highly prone to rust and corrosion.

Airaid intake

Airaid Intake

Virtually identical to the AFE?

No-housing design means instead of cold air, your engine gets only hot, stagnant air.

Cheap metal battery tray highly prone to rust and corrosion.

S&B intake

S&B Intake

Enclosed design but seals very poorly.

A large hole in the bottom sucks in very hot air directly above the exhaust manifold.

Worst of all competitors in both flow and temperature.

Volant intake

Volant Intake

Visually displeasing design that does not match the performance or quality of the Banks Ram-Air.

Cheap metal battery tray highly prone to rust and corrosion.

Reviews

99 F250 7. 3l Ram Air Cold Air Intake

"Overall impressed with the quality of parts and fit of components. Was able to install in a morning and use the truck in the afternoon with no issues."

Benjamin S. (5/5)

The big square hole on

"The big square hole on the front right which is open to the dusty hot engine compartment is not able to be remedied with any ford parts online or on eBay. My early 1999 didn’t have that design on old box. Discontinued is common with fo mo co. I had to buy shop vac pick up hoods and hose to fab my own induction system. The screw pattern did not line up on the lid once installed and a bit of wrestling is required to get the box fittings to line up. I join a lot of same online posts and relate: , nice design but not quite the precision I expected in the product and did not address the early 99 7. 3 filter box at all."

Keith M. (5/5)

Excellent Air Filter / Intake System.

"Installed on 2003 F250 with 7. 3 engine. Very pleased with this product. I noticed an immediate change / increase in performance of the truck. Installation was very straightforward, took about 30 mins or. Will be driving about 3K miles in the next 3 weeks, looking forward to seeing how this thing affects mileage. Replaced the Donaldson 6637 canister filter, which in retrospect, was absolute trash."

Colby (5/5)

Increased Power

"I put this on a stock 2000 Ford F350 crew cab. The truck is my dedicated camping rig (truck bed camper) so the camper is always in the bed. I noticed a power increase from low speeds to highway speeds. On the highway it seems to have more slightly more power when going up an incline. Installation was easy and the directions were detailed."

Anthony V. (5/5)

Back in 1999 I installed

"Back in 1999 I installed on my f350 7. 3L truck a Banks Powerpack assembly and it is still functioning perfect. Yesterday I installed a Ram Air Cleaner on the same truck, the installation was easy and everything fit without modification as I expected. Banks products work, last, perform as advertised. This truck doesn't get used as often as it used to mainly yearly trips to Bonneville and the lakes. Thanks for doing great work and having good products."

John B. (5/5)

Cold air intake

"Nice custom fit engine bay looks more organized & turbo sounds good has a whistle too it sucking all that air into the engine"

Ronald C. (5/5)

'00 F-350 Lariat Banks Items

"I have been a Banks customer since the early 90's. I have always been impressed with their product quality and engineering. My first experience was with a Banks Sidewinder kit on a '92 Ford 7. 3 non-factory turbo truck; man could that truck pull back in the day! I recently added a few Banks items to my '00 F-350 Lariat "project truck", to include a Monster Exhaust, Ram Air and AutoMind 2 programmer. This was money well spent, and the investment did not disappoint! This is a low milage 7. 3 Powerstroke that has been taken care of. The throttle response is now crisp, and the AutoMind 2 totally eliminated the "dead pedal" feel (running the tuner on level 3). It also cleaned up transmission shift points and made downshifts more responsive. The fit and finish of both the monster exhaust and ram air intake were exceptional, and I can really hear the turbo and increased airflow. The truck accelerates easily and has power that it was lacking. 7. 3's were not designed to be fast, but the truck is now fun to drive. It's only been a week since we installed all the parts, so I don't have any mileage or towing performance numbers to share. We own new diesel trucks and old diesel trucks. This is the last restoration project of my three older diesel trucks - '97 Powerstroke, '99 Cummins & '00 PowerStroke. I think many people are rediscovering older diesel trucks after dealing with frustrations over DEF consumption, DPF pluggage and other modern emission items. If it makes you smile, you should go for it, and this truck has put a smile on my face. Thank you Jeff and the Banks team!"

Gordon L. (5/5)

Great CAI!

"This intake fit perfect on my 01 F350. Definitely recommend it."

James K. (5/5)

Ease of Installation and Predictible TQ/HP

"A very strait forwards installation with the most challenging part being finding a couple of hours to get the swap done. The system is a direct bolt in place without modification. I looked at all the other manufacturers' system out there and had a challenging time on making a decision. A first, I believed that they were all about the same and that I needed to pick one and go with it. Banks is the only manufacture that provided me with the confidence that I was buying a system that was based on design and testing to prove the performance that they claimed. I appreciate that Banks provides the data and explains why getting the front end of the air delivery system is as important as any decision that I make for the rest of my truck. My goal is to invest my money into a system of components (Banks) and have an achievable performance outcome for torque and horsepower."

David B. (5/5)

Awesome !

"This kit was extremely easy to install, you can feel the power difference."

Q&A

Does this come with the filter or do I have to purchase the filter separately?
A filter is included with all our Ram-Air intake kits.
Could I use this on my 2000 F 250 super duty with the 6.8L V10?
Could I use this on my 2000 F 250 super duty with the 6.8L V10? While the frame and body might be the same, the mounting points would not mount up properly to your V10's throttle body and the airflow characteristics could potentially cause ECM trouble codes. Currently, we only offer a drop-in high-flow filter option, part number: [42012](https://bankspower.com/products/air-filter-42012-1997-2008-ford-f250-f350-5-4l-6-8l). We used to offer a Ram-Air filter and enclosure for 6.8L V10 F250's (Part number 49237). Unfortunately, there has been a change in production schedule and the enclosure is currently out of stock in our warehouse.
Would I be able to fit it on my 97 7.3 with out crazy modifications?
Yes, this is a straight bolt on kit.
Other than 1 is oil and 1 is dry, what's the difference, is 1 better than the other?
An oiled filter, instead of having five layers of filtration, you only need two or three because you are using oil to help capture debris and fill in the gaps of the filter. With dry filters, they use four to five layers to capture debris and filtration. Between the two, they capture almost the same amount of debris. The flow performance difference between the two is about 3%. The red filter will flow slightly more because it has a thinner filter medium.
What do you do with the stock air box sensor if I get the Banks ram Air Box?
It gets reused.
