About This Product

A groundbreaking cold air intake featuring the patented Banks Air Mass Control Module. The electronic device allows our engineers to use the Banks SuperTube, a massive free-flowing intake tube, larger than stock and all competitors.

No other cold air intake even comes close in size or airflow. Adds power, sharpens turbo response, and improves fuel economy. Beats stock and competitors in mass airflow, pressure retention, and dirt capacity. Provides a strong induction note.

Specifications

Brand new for the 2020-2023 Duramax L5P platform, the Banks Ram-Air intake is a game-changer. With 2020 and up Duramax engines, GM has further tightened the allowable range for induction tuning. To counter this, Banks engineers have designed a new patented Air Mass Control Module that allows an intake design to go beyond these limitations for truly unmatched airflow performance.

With a Big-Ass filter, huge induction tube and a unique bellowed silicone coupler to allow for engine movement while tapering down to increase air density, your 6.6L engine will breathe easy and cleanly. Its enclosed airbox design keeps power-robbing heat away and attaches to the OEM hood and front ram air scoops for even better performance at speed on the highway. An extra side inlet opens up to the wheel well for fresh air and a strong induction note sound.

Why It's Better

Patented Electronics

The ECM (Engine Control Module) in your 2020-23 Duramax monitors air mass and pressure so closely that any deviation from stock results in a check engine light.

The new patented Banks Air Mass Control Module allows our engineers to design past this electronic limitation.

Massive Airflow

In other words, all other competitive intakes must flow the same as stock past the Mass Air Flow sensor, whereas these stock airflow design constraints do not limit us.

MAF Cross Section Diagram

Unrivaled Size and Capacity

The all-new Ram-Air cold air intake system's large organic shape eliminates all restrictions and turbulence to the turbo. The radical new design allows for a massive 58% gain in Mass Air Flow over the stock system.

The oversized filter has greater dust capacity giving you more miles between services and flows freely long after stock and competitors are clogged with debris.

The huge filter outlet smoothly tapers down providing the highest gains in air density.

Your Stock Intake is Restrictive

The 2020-23 Duramax OEM Air Box is a bulky multi-piece design with harsh bends, corners and is designed for dust collection, not performance. The air path is compromised by resonators and silencers in an effort to keep noise at a minimum.

While the factory design does have inlets that mate to the hood's air scoop, its square filter and S-shaped flow path induces turbulence and drag to the intake system lowering Mass Air Flow.

The Devil's in the Details

The new Banks Ram-Air system features a durable heat-resistant Cross-Linked Polyethylene enclosure with a smooth organic shape that maximizes cool air volume around the filter and maintains air density into the box itself.

The top hood scoop duct now dumps directly into the airbox chamber improving the ram-air effect at speed.

A side fender inlet away from engine heat further lowers the pressure drop in the system while also letting you hear your turbo better.

Exclusive Bellows Free Performance

Standard factory style bellows induce drag to the intake. This added turbulence affects the boundary layer on the inside of the intake reducing the effective diameter for air to flow through.

Banks' huge tapering intake elbow with exclusive bellows slide over the Banks Super-Tube allowing for free engine movement and unobstructed airflow into the turbo.

The elbow is made from EPDM synthetic rubber instead of silicone for greater environmental resistance and strength against damage or collapse under vacuum.

Air Mass Matters

The greater the air mass entering your engine, the less fuel your engine will consume.

That also means less engine heat going into the engine oil and coolant system since it is working less hard to make the same horsepower. In other words, improved fuel economy and less stress on the engine itself!

Yes, airflow (CFM) is important, but if the system flows more air, and that air is hot, you'll likely see a loss in horsepower and more stress on your engine.

Pressurized, cool, dense air is the winning combination. To learn more about air density, see this article.

A Big Filter — Engineered Right

The massive filter sits angled down in the air box to discourage dirt and debris from getting wedged between the pleats and Its massive 51in2 filter outlet Filter has over twice the airflow area of any competitor.

The Banks Super-Tube fits perfectly over the top of the filter which has an integrated collar to smoothly transition airflow from the air box and into the turbo with the lowest resistance and drag.

Bigger is Better When Properly Engineered

While other brands go for bragging rights for the "biggest" by cramming more pleats into their filters, they end up designing one that gets clogged faster and flows less air.

Just having a big looking filter, does not mean it will perform the best.

Banks massive filter has an optimized ratio of filter surface area, pleat count, and media thickness allowing it to outflow every other filter tested while breathing evenly from all sides. Banks wins again.

Must have

"Bought mine came within a week. Installed it myself and the difference this thing does is incredible. 2021 GMC Denali. It’s a must even if it’s all you’ll do. No check engine light nothing. Worked perfectly"

Great Upgrade

"Instructions were incredibly helpful and the installation went perfectly. I am thankful it is 50 state legal as I do live in California. Sounds great too!"

Patrick W. (5/5)

Great product ,

"The order took a long, long, lonnnggg time. . :the product, once it arrived a few months later, is top notch. Their directions are some of the best I've seen for a stress free installation. Took another an hour,. . ,,working slow and methodically. Maybe adds a few HP, negligible, not sure if it increased MPG, not very noticeable: but, certainly a bigger throaty sound"

John P. (5/5)

Great! Awesome!!

"I gained 3mpg by installing the ram air. 27. 1 to 30. 3 with 2500HD 6. 6 Duramax with full cab."

Just finished installing my ram

"Just finished installing my ram air in my Duramax 2500. In town driving I got two more gallons per mile. Went on a road trip and got four more gallons per mile. I average 20 to 22 miles per gallon on the highway. Banks did a great job on this ram air. I would highly recommend this product."

Best Cold air kit for newer vehicles

"Replaced my S&B intake for the new Banks system in my 2021 GMC Duramax. Cleared all of the Emission issues and added power to the truck. It gets on it when I need it. I have also seen a very dramatic increase in fuel mileage. I am totally sold on this banks cold air kit."

"Took a little time to get due to backorders, but they stayed on top of it for me. Customer service was fantastic!!!! Easy install and great product."

Chip P. (5/5)

Q&A

Can I order the Mass Control Module by itself. I'm pretty sure mine is bad. I keep getting a check air filter system message on my dash. The check engine light is not on, but I have to clear the message every time I start the truck.
For technical assistance with questions like this, we'd love to discuss it over the phone. Please call our tech support team at 800-601-8072, opt 4.
Will this require a tune are even flash after install on the vehicle
No, tuning is not required
Will this trigger any check engine lights or anything? Heard something on that when i got the truck. 2021 6.6l duramax
I just installed mine last week and drove about 400 miles since,, no issues and noticable better fuel mileage
Will this intake fit a 2024 2500?
No it will not, it requires changes to work on the 2024+ trucks.
I live in Michigan ,I had a problem with icing on the senor in the air cleaner.Gm says to run bra to up under hood temps, wondering if you folks heard of this before and how would your air intake deal with this concern.
Our intake does NOT address this issue as icing could still be an issue with our intake.
