Why It's Better

When it comes to product development, we only make products that increase performance and beat the competition. So when we tested the popular Diff Covers on the market, we were shocked to find out that they actually hurt performance. This lead to the development of something so new and incredible that our performance design has a United States Patent.

Look, when we set out to build a product for your vehicle, we only engineer the best. What else would you expect from a company with a winning legacy that spans decades. We are here to win, and we just did (AGAIN) in a huge way

Purpose Built

The Banks Engineering team’s goal was to perfect fluid flow and reject BTUs from the fluid as fast as the ring and pinion puts them in.

If the fluid flow is impeded in any way, it results in resistance and aeration which reduce fuel economy and creates heat, thereby degrading the fluid and decreasing the lifespan of the gearset.

Outperform The Competition, For Less

Thanks to its superior fluid and aerodynamics, the Ram-Air® Cover out-performs stock and flat-back high-capacity covers and does so with less lubricant.

Increased distance between service intervals and less lubricant means you'll save money while extending gear life.

Animation showing Banks Ram-Air Differentials superior fluid dynamics

Flat-Back Fail

Extra capacity "Flat-Back" covers have worse fluid dynamics than stock.

Effectively splattering oil at a wall reducing lubrication on key components and increasing wear-tear and heat.

2D Animation showing Flat-Back covers flawed design

Banks Does It Right

With the proper distance between the ring gear and raceway, oil is lifted up and around the differential.

The internal fluid guides directs the flow exactly to where it's needed.

2D Animation showing Banks Ram-Air Differentials superior fluid dynamics
2D Animation showing Flat-Back covers poor cooling ability

Flat-Backs Dead Air

The competition has no way of directing airflow, their covers leave a deadzone so temperatures rise faster and fall slower, meaning your oil works harder and components wear faster, costing you fuel economy

2D Animation showing Banks Ram-Air scoops superior cooling ability

Forced Air Cooling

The Banks differential cover is fundamentally different from its competition because it utilizes Ram-air scoops that direct air through channeled fins, cooling the differential and internal oil temperatures.

Heat Radiation Comparison

The Banks Ram-Air cover features deep external fins with 160% more exterior heat radiation surface area than Mag-Hytec, or over 5x that of the factory cover.

Bar chart comparing external heat radiation surface area. Banks has 169% more than flat-backs.

Heat Absorption Comparison

The 22 internal heat absorption fins add an extra 222.2in2 to pull heat, or almost 70% more area than stock.

Bar chart comparing internal heat absorption area. Banks Ram-Air has 21% more than flat-backs.

The Superior Choice, Backed by 18 Months of Testing

What began with a simple question, resulted in millions of video views, innovation, and another patented Banks product.

All other manufacturers simply copied previous designs. They all run on the belief that "more oil means cooler temps."

The Banks Engineering Team uncovered two underlying problems with aftermarket covers; poor air flow and flawed fluid dynamics. The Banks Ram-Air® differential cover solves both issues.

Test chart showing Banks superior cooling vs AFE and Stock. Banks design cools 118% better.

Keeps Your Diff Cool

Tests were performed on a stretch of California’s infamous Grapevine (Interstate 5) on the same truck, with the same driver and the same load, at the same time of day and same temperature

After testing covers with flat-backs and those with larger fluid capacities, it was apparent that these covers do not cool as well as advertised, suffer from poor fluid dynamics, and they all make no use of airflow to cool actively

Banks Recommends Amsoil Lubricant

We searched for information on every popular brand of gear oil. The only company with in-depth knowledge and the willingness to share it was AMSOIL.

They are every bit as thorough in their development as we are. The more info we discovered, the more we liked how AMSOIL designs and test their products.

If you want to see for yourself, here is a link to their 75w90 test results.

We decided to stick with the manufacturer's suggested viscosity and use AMSOIL Severe Gear Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lube.

Fill level remains at the recommended levels as factory.

Check owners manual for recommended fill level for your specific vehicle.

Ground Clearance

Our patented Ram-Air scoops are designed to increase airflow over the rear differential without sacrificing ground clearance. In fact, our differential cover retains the same low point as factory and competitors.

Serviceable diff cover

"Great design! If you are tired of always using high temp RTV to seal your cover. This is what you need to look at. 27 year old axle, fitment was perfect. The O-ri g doesn't leak. Don't be a fool. Put a cover on that you can see when the service needs to be done on the fluid. Make that service you do easy and simple. Far as how it flows air in and out I'm no expert but that's just an added bonus to the design. The serviceability is what should draw your attention, especially if you have an older truck that doesn't have a drain plug. The sight glass is another feature that just adds to the "wow they really thought this out factor". Having one of your intercooler kits on my truck is what sold me on a part that most think is just jewelry on your rig. Again fitment is spot on, features that actually help make service easy and yes the O-ri g seals and doesn't leak even a drop of fluid. Just spend the money, install it correctly and you won't have any regrets on your purchase. A must for older axles that want to replace your old stamped cover with something that just makes more and more sense as you install and service as needed."

Q&A

I have a 2015 F350 DRW 4X4 with the Dana 80 diff cover, do you make one yet? The owner's manual says it's a M80
We don't have one available at this time, but may in the future.
Will this fit my 1993 F-350 DRW? I do have the 12 bolt Sterling 10.25, but it is a dually. My understanding is that the covers are the same dimensions but you and most other brands say the covers are SRW only.
This differential will not fit on a DRW vehicle we do note this in the fitment section on the website.
I have a 100k mile powertrain warranty through Ford on my F350. Do you know if installing this cover would void the warranty on the truck?
Hey, thanks for messaging us. The stance on aftermarket parts varies widely from dealer to dealer. This is why we suggest consulting with your dealer to learn how they choose to enforce Stellantis' warranty policies. Generally speaking, there are three types of dealerships. 1. Dealers that embrace and install performance upgrades. 2. Dealers who will overlook an aftermarket part because they know it's harmless. 3. Dealers who are militant about aftermarket accessories and will deny a warranty.
The video, airflow diagrams, and virtual presentations only show airflow in, but do not show airflow out. Where does the air exit so continuous fresh cool air can enter?
The rear of the differential is open for the air to flow away. its initially curved up to cool the fins then flows freely away along with the heat.
Was concerned about mud or snow getting packed inside cover is this a possibility?
As long it is not extremes like rock crawling and high-speed trophy trucks, the Ram Air diff cover will be fine. The scoops don't hang below the differential housing, So, it's unlikely that they'll get filled with mud or debris. However, If you are driving through deep mud regularly and the scoops get filled with mud, the cover will still cool the gear oil better than stock and all high-capacity covers. The fins are longer and thinner than any other cover and do most of the heat rejection. To remove any debris, since the scoops are open on both ends, you can simply hose them out. As an added safety net, the Diff covers Ram-Air scoops have a break away point that prevents damage if the scoop is snagged. In short, if a scoop gets caught, it will break away and not rip the cover off.

In short, if a scoop gets caught, it will break away and not rip the cover off.

Quality…

"I received and installed the Diff Cover on my 2017 F-250 6. 7 Powerstroke the other day. No noticeable difference in performance as expected but that is well made and with the drain plug, next diff change will be minutes and a pleasure to do."

Smokes The Stock Cover

"This Banks Diff cover is a serious piece of hardware. It is solidly constructed in a beautiful style. It changes the whole appearance of the axle. I also like the fact there’s a drain plug. Changing fluid with stock cover is a pain in the ass and time consuming. Installation was a breeze. I would definitely recommend this diff cover. I’m glad I made the purchase."
