About This Product

Banks brings forced air cooling to the Allison 1000 transmission. Using technology from our patented differential covers, the Banks Ram-Air Transmission Pan extends fluid life by rejecting more heat than stock and all competitors. An additional two quarts of capacity, a break-away Ram-Air scoop, and Banks FlowThru Fins® aid in cooling. Cooler fluid means a longer-lasting transmission. Patent No. US 12,313,156 B1

Why It's Better

Engineered To Run Cool

The Banks Ram Air Transmission Pan for 2001-2019 Duramax trucks with Allison 1000 transmission outperforms and outcools the competition by leveraging decades of Ram-Air technology and thermal management expertise honed in racing and military engine development.

Forced Air Cooling

Taking advantage of the fast-moving cool air under your truck, the Ram-Air Transmission Pans' Patented design provides forced air cooling as it draws ambient air through the large forward-facing scoop and through the external heat radiation fins.

Unlike competitive designs where the metal of the pan hangs the lowest, the Ram-Air Transmission Pan is engineered so that the lowest point is only the sacrificial front scoop while still providing 2 additional quarts of fluid capacity.

The plastic scoop is also designed to break away without causing damage to your pan, just in case. If this happens to you, let us know and we will send a replacement Ram-Air scoop on the house.

Banks Ram-Air Transmission Pan Technical Features

•1/8" NPT port for easily adding a supplemental temperature sensor.

•24 deep-cut external radiator fins provide more exposed surface area to the cool air moving under the truck.

•Integrated support structure for internal filter acts as anti-slosh baffles for fluid in the pan.

•18 internal fins absorb more heat from the oil than a standard or all aftermarket pans.

•Die-cast process provides a smoother, less porous interior surface and improves fluid flow in the pan.

The Banks proprietary FlowThru Fins®maximize thermal energy transfer by lining up the internal absorption and external radiator elements with each other.

Transmission fluid heat is efficiently drawn from the fluid, reducing stress on your Duramax's cooling and lubrication systems.

Banks Ram-Air Transmission Pan, Technical Features

Banks vs Stock

The stock Duramax pan is made from stamped steel which has no internal or external fins to assist in removing heat from the fluid inside.

Without additional means to cool the fluid, it quickly becomes heat soaked with no way to radiate the additional heat load.

Banks vs The Competition

What happens when the Ram-Air goes against the competition? Some brands also claim to have massive cooling ability with designs that feature exposed fins. But after closer inspection, these fin layouts appear to cross haphazardly across their surface or have blind corners that obstruct fluid flow and collect sediment.

PPE Transmission Pan, Fin Analysis Banks Ram-Air Transmission Pan, Fin Area Analysis

Plus, what all others lack, is the forward-facing Ram-Air scoop to help guide the air under your truck directly through its die-cast FlowThru Fins®, which further enhances heat transfer out of your fluid and away from your transmission. No other pan is as well-engineered.

Die-Cast vs Sand-Cast

All Banks lubrication cooling products are die-cast, not sand-cast like some competitors. Made with far greater precision, a die-cast part is denser, smoother, and has virtually no porosity compared to the equivalent sand-cast part.

Wide view of CoolRunner Squeeze Gap
Real world example of rough casting surface vs smooth die cast

Sand-cast parts often retain the sand they were molded with. Sand is an abrasive material that is bad for bearings and cylinder walls. In other words, you don’t want sand in your oil. Finally, our long, thin cooling fins are only possible with a die-cast process. Although this process costs more, it's worth it.

Elite Transmission pan

"The pan does exactly what it is supposed to do. I pull a trailer every time I use this truck and im always worried about over heating the transmission, this pan lowered my temperature by an average of 12 degrees. Thanks you for the great invention"

Great fit on my 2015

"Great fit on my 2015 LML. Hardware package was missing two bolts but I reached out to customer service and with no questions asked they sent out the missing hardware. I appreciated the gift they sent as well. Thanks."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Impressed with the Banks Transmission Pan!

"The Banks transmission pan is hands down one of the best upgrades I’ve added to my truck. The quality and craftsmanship are top-notch—you can tell right out of the box that Banks put a lot of thought and engineering into this product. Fitment was excellent, installation was straightforward, and once installed, it looks incredible underneath the truck. More importantly, it’s a functional upgrade, not just something that looks good. The added fluid capacity and improved cooling give me extra confidence in keeping transmission temperatures under control, especially with a modified truck that gets driven and shown regularly. I’m extremely happy with the overall quality, design, and attention to detail. If you’re looking to upgrade your transmission pan and want something that combines performance with a great-looking finished product, I definitely recommend Banks. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Quality product and a great addition to the build!"

Banks has a better mouse trap as usual

"I had a competitors transmission pan on my 07 GMC Duramax, & it did lower temps over the stock pan, but with the stock temperature gauge it was hard to tell exactly how much? Banks always do their homework with new products so I purchased one of their Ram Air transmission pans & when I installed it, I put in a after market temperature gauge. So far in the hot, humid southern Illinois heat it has yet to climb over 168 degrees on days with 95 degree temps & 65% humidity. I haven't towed my trailer with my truck yet but I'm sure it will keep the transmission cooler then the competitors pan I had on it previously. Banks always have great products so I have just purchased a pedal monster to go along with the Ram Air rear diff cover I already had on my truck. I'd recommend Banks products to anyone who wants high Quality products for their vehicle!"

Q&A

Can I use this without the ram air scoop in order to not have it hang low?
Yes it can be used without a scoop. It is worth noting, as long as it is not extremes like rock crawling or high-speed offroading the Ram-Air Trans Pan will be fine on almost all road conditions. The scoop doesn't hang below the cross member. As an added safety net, the Ram-Air scoop has a breakaway point that prevents damage if the scoop is snagged. In short, if a scoop gets caught, it will break away and not rip the pan off.
Will this work with 6.6 gas engine?
No, we do not offer oil or trans pans for the gas engines.
Hello, Unless I missed something in the initial reading on this product, it is a fact that you don’t change the internal transmission filter unless it’s for a rebuild-right? If I put this trans pan on, wouldn’t be taking the risk of messing up my transmission and forced to have it rebuilt? Please advise. Thank you
The Allison 1000 has a spin-on filter and an internal filter. The internal filter does not require regular service intervals. Based on our research, most owners drop the fluid via the plug and change the spin-on filter. Because the Ram-Air Trans Pan allows for a more complete drain without removing the pan, it aids in convenience.
Does this pan require a deeper internal oil filter? I'm sorry if this was in the reading and I missed it. 2016 LML/ALLISON 1000
Our oil pan uses the standard sump filter, not the deep pan filter. MY 2001 – 2005 Trucks: 5 Speed Stock Pan Filter - GM PN 29537965 MY 2006 – 2019 Trucks: 6 Speed Stock Pan Filter – GM PN 29542833
