Taking advantage of the fast-moving cool air under your truck, the Ram-Air Transmission Pans' Patented design provides forced air cooling as it draws ambient air through the large forward-facing scoop and through the external heat radiation fins.
Unlike competitive designs where the metal of the pan hangs the lowest, the Ram-Air Transmission Pan is engineered so that the lowest point is only the sacrificial front scoop while still providing 3 additional quarts of fluid capacity.
The plastic scoop is also designed to break away without causing damage to your pan, just in case. If this happens to you, let us know and we will send a replacement Ram-Air scoop on the house.

The stock 68RFE pan is shallow and made from stamped steel which has no internal or external fins to assist in removing heat from the fluid inside.
Without additional means to cool the fluid, it quickly becomes heat soaked with no way to radiate the additional heat load.
With an additional 3 quart fill capacity and a massive increase in internal and external surface area, transmission heat is efficiently rejected through the casting and back to the cool ambient air under the truck.
All Banks lubrication cooling products are die-cast, not sand-cast like some competitors. Made with far greater precision, a die-cast part is denser, smoother, and has virtually no porosity compared to the equivalent sand-cast part.
Sand-cast parts often retain the sand they were molded with. Sand is an abrasive material that is bad for bearings and cylinder walls. In other words, you don’t want sand in your oil. Finally, our long, thin cooling fins are only possible with a die-cast process. Although this process costs more, it's worth it.

"Installed this pan on my 2012 RAM 1500 with a 65RFE. Had to get the exhaust crossover clearanced at a shop beforehand, but install was dead easy, and it dropped my temps considerably. 92-95F outside temps and the trans fluid never went over 150F cruising unloaded. Should be able to keep this under 170F towing."
"Just installed the Ram Air Transmission pan on my 2024 Limited Longhorn Mega Cab at 40K miles, and I couldn't be happier with its performance. Just today, the ambient temp is 106, and the transmission stays between 172 and 174. For reference, I did NOT do a thermal bypass block at the same time, so this is exactly where it should be on the low end of the temperature spectrum. I have noticed that the fluid cools much faster when the truck isn't running as well. Another testament to its performance. Lastly, because I was a bit shocked by this, it took 14. 5 quarts to refill to the full hot mark after dropping the pan, replacing both filters, and letting it drain until it stopped with them removed. Wish I had checked the level before the service to see where it was, but I suspect it was low from the factory. Thanks again Banks for another phenomenal product."
"2024 Ram 3500 DRW w/ 68RFE. I performed the install at 31,000 miles. The pan install wasn't that bad. If you change filters while doing the install, it takes forever for the fluid to completely drain after you remove the canister filter (like an hour of it constantly flowing). When I refilled, it took exactly 14 quarts to get back to the hot/full mark while at 165 degrees. Overall I was kind of surprised at how much of a difference the pan made in terms of cooling. With the stock pan, my truck would hit 168 (and stay there indefinitely) within 5-6 miles. With this new pan and increased fluid capacity, I don't even get up to 168 on my ~20 mile drive to work at 75mph. The fluid will also now 'cool down' while driving, which I previously never saw with the stock pan. I primarily bought this just for the drain plug, but it's nice to know it actually does yield tangible cooling benefits while driving."

On my 2012 mega cab 6. 7, my trans temps always concerned me and I had to keep the trans temp screen up, I’ve seen temps high as 220 towing about 10,000# Now with the ram air pan I’m seeing nothing higher than 170° on grades. "Thing is a piece of artwork. The machining and design is next level. Sure it's a few bucks more than the average aftermarket pans, but when you see the two next to each other. . . you're wasting your money on other pans. They don't compare. The option is simple and binary. . . keep your stock pan. . . or run the Banks."

"I purchased the Banks intake, ram air, and transmission cover solutions for my 2015 Ram 2500, 6. 7 Cummins. My son did the installations(he’s an ASE certified technician) without any issues. Truck runs without issues. I hauled a 20’ car hauler(14000# GVWR, trailer weighs about 3000#)with a 6000# load 400 miles and the transmission temp never topped 170°, and I averaged over 17mpg in some very hilly terrain. So far I am satisfied with the results. Still contemplating the boost tube upgrade??"
