For the 2020–2026 Chevy and GMC 2500/3500 6.6L Duramax L5P, we engineered the Banks Ram-Air Intake around a big goal. The intake system has to:

The problem is not just airflow. It is controlling airflow.
The stock Duramax intake system is part of a monitored system.
The ECM closely measures air mass and pressure. On later trucks, its tolerances for airflow deviation are even smaller. That matters because a bigger intake path can move more air, but if the truck does not understand what is happening, the result can be a check engine light or reduced power instead of better performance.
That’s where a lot of aftermarket intakes get boxed in.
They can change the filter. They can change the tube. But if they have to stay near stock airflow to avoid setting a code, the design is limited before the testing even starts.
We took a different path.
The Ram-Air System uses patented electronics so we can design the intake for airflow first, then make the system work with the truck’s monitoring strategy.
On 2020–2024 trucks, that means the Banks Air Mass Control Module. On 2025–2026 trucks, it means the Air Mass Control Module plus the Banks Crankcase Ventilation Control Module because GM added crankcase ventilation pressure monitoring for the 2025+ model year.

That is the foundation of our approach: more air mass, lower restriction, and a control strategy that lets the truck accept the change.
Why the Banks intake is bigger where it matters
Airflow does not like sharp turns, abrupt shape changes, or small filter outlets.
The stock Duramax intake has to meet a lot of production goals: packaging, noise control, serviceability, emissions requirements, and cost. Performance airflow is only one part of that job.
Ram-Air is built around the airflow job.
The large organic-shaped intake path reduces restriction and turbulence before the turbo. The oversized filter gives the system more surface area and dust capacity. The filter outlet smoothly tapers into the intake tube instead of forcing air through a tight, abrupt transition.
That matters because the turbo does not care how good an intake looks on a parts page. It cares about how much clean, dense air reaches the compressor inlet and how hard it has to work to get it.

Less pressure loss means the turbo works less
Restriction ahead of the turbo matters.
When the intake path is tight, turbulent, or heat-soaked, the turbo has to work harder to pull in the air it needs. Reduce the pressure loss and the turbo gets a better supply of air at the inlet.
That reduction increases air mass into the turbo inlet, helps boost come on sooner, and widens the usable working RPM range.

This is the part owners feel in normal driving.
The truck responds quicker when you roll into the throttle. The turbo does not feel like it is fighting through the stock intake tract. Loaded merging, grades, passing, and daily driving all benefit from an intake that feeds the turbo instead of choking it.
Cold air matters. So does where the air comes from.
A big filter sitting in hot engine-bay air is not the answer.
Ram-Air uses an enclosed housing to keep hot engine air away from the filter and increase the volume of cool air around it. The system connects to the OEM hood and forward ram-air scoop path, and it uses a side fender inlet positioned away from engine heat.
That gives the filter access to cooler outside air instead of making the engine breathe from the hottest area under the hood.

The housing is not there for decoration. It controls the air source, manages heat, and gives the filter room to breathe.
The filter is not just larger. It is engineered to keep flowing.
Filter size matters, but only if the shape, media, pleat package, and outlet work together.
We use a massive filter because a larger filter can hold more dirt and maintain flow longer between services. That matters on a truck that tows, works, sees dirt roads, or spends long miles under load.
The filter outlet matters too. A tight outlet can become the bottleneck even if the filter itself is large. Ram-Air uses a large outlet that tapers smoothly into the intake tube, helping maintain air density and reducing the kind of abrupt transition that creates turbulence.

Bigger helps. Bigger with the right outlet and air path helps more.
Why we use electronics instead of playing inside stock limits
The big difference with Ram-Air is not just the molded intake tube or the filter.
It is the fact that we engineered the intake and the truck’s monitoring strategy together.
On 2020–2024 L5P trucks, the Banks Air Mass Control Module lets the intake move beyond the stock airflow limitation without setting a check engine light. That is what gives us room to build the system around real airflow improvement instead of staying trapped near stock.
On 2025–2026 trucks, GM added another layer by monitoring crankcase ventilation pressure. So we added another layer too: the Banks Crankcase Ventilation Control Module.

That is why the 2025–2026 release matters.
The truck changed. We changed the intake with it.
What you feel on the truck
A good intake should not just make noise.
It should make the truck feel less restricted.
With the Ram-Air System, the difference shows up as sharper turbo response, increased air density to the compressor inlet, and a broader working RPM range. On the truck, that means quicker response when you roll into the throttle and less of the lazy, restricted feeling that comes from the stock intake path.

Why there are three Banks Ram-Air systems for 2020–2026
The product story is the same: more air, less restriction, better control.
The reason there are three systems is simple: GM changed the truck.
This is the Ram-Air built for 2020–2023 Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 6.6L Duramax L5P trucks.
It uses the patented Banks Air Mass Control Module, a massive intake tube, oversized filter, enclosed XLPE airbox, hood scoop connection, side inlet, and EPDM elbow with bellows for engine movement.
This version is 50-state compliant and does not fit 2024–2025 trucks.
The 2024 truck gets its own Ram-Air because GM tightened the allowable range with a new MAF sensor calibration.
We engineered the 2024 system with the patented Air Mass Control Module so the intake could improve performance without triggering a check engine light. The system is 50-state compliant and does not fit 2025 trucks.
The 2025–2026 truck gets the newest version because GM added crankcase ventilation pressure monitoring for 2025+.
This system includes both the Banks Air Mass Control Module and the Banks Crankcase Ventilation Control Module. That second module is the key difference. It lets the intake work with the added monitoring strategy on the newest trucks.
The 2025–2026 system is currently not available to ship to California. However, CARB compliance is in process.
