Sounds crazy but I'm seeing a gain of more than 3 mpg. Throttle response is much better. Impressed.

Why You Need It

The Ram-Air intake system for the 2024 Duramax 6.6L helps the engine produce horsepower at lower RPM, sharpens turbo response, and improves fuel economy by improving air mass flow to the turbo. This is made possible by our patented electronics. Meanwhile, all competitors must retain near stock airflow or risk setting a check engine light.

Why It's Better

  • Only intake that improves mass air flow over stock
  • Improves turbo response
  • Improves fuel economy
  • Massive filter extends service life, fewer cleanings
  • Housing keeps out hot air
  • Housing increases air volume around filter
  • Connects to OEM hood scoop
  • Rubber elbow allow for engine movement
  • Increased turbo sound, no drone
  • Oiled or dry high efficiency filter
  • No check engine light
  • Includes Banks Air Mass Control Module
  • U.S. Patent 11,193,441

Helps engine produce horsepower at lower RPM

Thanks to a 45% reduction in pressure loss over the stock intake, air mass is increased into the turbo inlet. This denser air makes the turbo's job easier. Turbo lag is reduced and boost comes on sooner, widening the engine's working RPM range.

Not only does power come on sooner with the Ram-Air intake, but the turbo spins nearly 3,000 RPM slower increasing its efficiency and longevity. Turbo life is increased because it’s spinning millions of revolutions less over its lifetime.

Massive Airflow

In other words, all other competitive intakes must flow within a narrow airflow window near stock levels past the Mass Air Flow sensor, whereas these stock airflow design constraints do not limit us.

Unrivaled Size and Capacity

The all-new Ram-Air cold air intake system's large organic shape eliminates all restrictions and turbulence to the turbo. The radical new design allows for a massive 58% gain in Mass Air Flow over the stock system.

The oversized filter has greater dust capacity giving you more miles between services and flows freely long after stock and competitors are clogged with debris.

The huge filter outlet smoothly tapers down providing the highest gains in air density.

Your Stock Intake is Restrictive

The Duramax OEM air filter housing is a bulky multi-piece design with harsh bends, corners and is designed for dust collection, not performance. The air path is compromised by resonators and silencers in an effort to keep noise at a minimum.

While the factory design does have inlets that mate to the hood's air scoop, its square filter and S-shaped flow path induces turbulence and drag to the intake system lowering Mass Air Flow.

The Devil's in the Details

The new Banks Ram-Air system features a durable heat-resistant Cross-Linked Polyethylene enclosure with a smooth organic shape that maximizes cool air volume around the filter and maintains air density into the box itself.

The top hood scoop duct now dumps directly into the airbox chamber, improving the ram-air effect at speed.

A side fender inlet away from engine heat further lowers the pressure drop in the system while also letting you hear your turbo better

Exclusive Bellows Free Performance

Standard factory style bellows induce drag to the intake. This added turbulence affects the boundary layer on the inside of the intake reducing the effective diameter for air to flow through.

Banks' huge tapering intake elbow with exclusive bellows slide over the Banks Super-Tube allowing for free engine movement and unobstructed airflow into the turbo.

The elbow is made from EPDM synthetic rubber instead of silicone for greater environmental resistance and strength against damage or collapse under vacuum.

Air Mass Matters

The greater the air mass entering your engine, the less fuel your engine will consume. That also means less engine heat going into the engine oil and coolant system since it is working less hard to make the same horsepower. In other words, improved fuel economy and less stress on the engine itself!

Yes, airflow (CFM) is important, but if the system flows more air, and that air is hot, you'll likely see a loss in horsepower and more stress on your engine.

Pressurized, cool, dense air is the winning combination. To learn more about air density, see this article.

A Big Filter — Engineered Right

The Banks Super-Tube fits perfectly over the top of the filter which has an integrated collar to smoothly transition airflow from the air box and into the turbo with the lowest resistance and drag.

The massive filter sits angled down in the air box to discourage dirt and debris from getting wedged between the pleats and Its massive51in2filter outlet Filter has overtwicethe airflow area of any competitor.

Bigger is Better When Properly Engineered

While other brands go for bragging rights for the "biggest" by cramming more pleats into their filters, they end up designing one that gets clogged faster and flows less air.

Just having a big looking filter, does not mean it will perform the best.

Banks massive filter has an optimized ratio of filter surface area, pleat count, and media thickness allowing it to outflow every other filter tested while breathing evenly from all sides. Banks wins again.

Reviews

Nice, But I havent noticed any Change.

"The product is very nice and a great fit. Looks nice as well under the hood. The one thing I was looking forward to is better mileage. I have put a few tanks of fuel in and driven both locally and a highway trip and I haven't noticed any MPG increase. Still in the 14 and 15's."

Peter N. (4/5)

RAM AIR!!

"Everything about the Ram air intake does exactly what banks says it does. Super easy install and easy to follow instructions. Plus you cant beat the performance side with the bypass for the M. A. S. At first it was hard to fit it to the inlet but I went through the instructions again and it was clear I did it wrong the first time. Very happy with it."

Brandon S. (5/5)

Gas mileage

"I saw no improvement in gas mileage, and to be honest with you performance wise I don’t think it did a thing I bought the cold air intake, the Derringer and the pedal monster and I wished I hadn’t bought any of it not 1 mile a gallon increase after repeated measurements."

Terry M. (5/5)

Pretty basic install

"This was pretty basic to follow the YouTube based video for instruction's. Not a ASE tech but I got it done and seems to be working as it should. Light weight housing and the filter is some much larger to keep the dirt out. Highly recommended product."

Eric F. (5/5)

Sounds Like an F-18, Performs Like Stock

"I installed this hoping for some extra grunt, and while it turns the engine bay into a gorgeous piece of aerospace art, the actual performance gains are basically a statistical ghost. It doesn't noticeably move the needle on horsepower or fuel economy—unless your definition of an MPG upgrade is saving enough gas over the next decade to buy a stale bag of chips. Three stars. It’s a top-tier noise maker that sounds like a jet fighter spooling up every time you merge, but your truck will run the exact same. Buy it strictly to giggle at the under-hood symphony; pass on it if you're looking for actual gains."

Chris R. (3/5)

Noticeable improvement!

"Air box provided noticeable improvement in response and sound, not huge but noticeable. Plan on adding more Banks products, piece by piece!"

Jeffrey R. (5/5)

Installation

"I still have yet to put it on. I was having difficulty pulling off the the old intake tube and have not had a chance to try again"

Scott p. (5/5)

It 💪

"I like the sound. Most of all I have gained 1 mpg. Consistently. Did not need power, had alot of that. Happy with purchase"

Tom M. (5/5)

Nice upgrade

"Noticeable fuel mileage gains and better acceleration."

Sean K. (5/5)

Fits perfect

Q&A

Does it need to be tuned? Or will it not affect factory programming.
The Ram-air kit is designed to work with existing emissions hardware, you wont need a tune and it wont give any error code or CEL's when installed.
What kind of power difference and fuel economy are you expecting?
The Ram-Air intake allows you to enter the torque band earlier in the RPM range because it provides a denser air charge to the turbo, resulting in less work required to achieve the same boost. In short, the turbo is spinning about 3,000 rpm slower but making the same boost. Typically, fuel economy with our performance parts will vary based on driving habits, truck upgrades, and the environment. therefore we do not advertise gains. that being said, some testers and customers have seen a 1-2 mpg gain with the intake.
Will the ram air filter for the '24 require the deringer or any other add ons or can it be installed by itself
We recommend stacking the Ram-Air intake and the Derringer for the best driving experience and performance, but tuning is not required to run the intake.
Is there expected release date for the 2024-25?
While we do not have a formal release date for the Ram-Air Intake for the 2024/25 Duramax, we're confident that it will be the only cold air intake system that increases air mass, thanks to the patented Air Mass Control Module. In other words, it'll be worth the wait.
I see some vendors listing this as 2020-2024. Is there a difference? Same question for the tuner. Thank you.
The Ram Air and the Derringer for the 20-23 L5P Duramax will not carry over to the 2024+ trucks. The hardware and calibrations differ based on emissions changes for the 2024 model year and ECM tuning from the factory.
