How to keep your Diesel MAP sensor clean

All modern Diesel engines have a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. Your vehicle's engine control module (ECM) relies on pressure (and in some cases temperature) data collected from this sensor to calculate the proper air fuel ratio and injection timing. 

But here’s the problem. The sensor sits in the middle of the oily recirculated exhaust stream. As it gets caked in sticky oil and soot, its measurements become inaccurate and you end up with reduced power and fuel economy. It doesn't happen over night. But it does happen. 

Technically, you can clean the sensor every few thousand miles using MAF sensor cleaner, but most manufacturers recommend buying a new one to avoid damaging the sensitive element inside the delicate plastic housing. 

To avoid this hassle, we’ve designed a billet aluminum MAP Sensor Relocation Kit. This little work of art relocates the sensor out of the recirculated air stream so it doesn’t get blasted with soot and oil. We moved it just enough so that it stays clean and takes accurate measurements.
