90 Miles from home. Almost no power.
That’s what happened to Michael Dischbein and his 2022 Ford.
Michael was towing near Duck Creek, Utah, 7,800 feet up in the mountains, when his stock intercooler pipe blew. His wife and dog were with him. His trailer was behind him. And home was 90 miles away.

Regardless of where it happens, the result can be the same: a sudden loss of boost pressure causing P1247 and P0299 Turbocharger Boost Pressure trouble codes and a P0402 EGR Excessive Flow trouble code. This is followed by severely reduced engine power. If you’re towing miles from home, a failed charge pipe, (commonly known as a boost tube) can turn your trip into an expensive tow bill and dealer visit.
Attempting to drive in this condition truck will only get you a few miles. With no boost, the air fuel ratio is so rich that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) will fill with soot in just 5-10 miles. As it clogs, P246C and P2463 excessive soot codes are triggered. The ECM reduces power until speed is limited to idle.

Fix the weak link and double the flow area.
